I am the Director of Forums and Research Initiatives with the Global Research Institute (GRI) at William & Mary. In this role I provide intellectual leadership to a variety of applied research programs and lead the conceptual development and coordination of convenings that integrate academic and policy audiences. My portfolio includes stewardship of the annual Gates Forums on pressing challenges in U.S. national security.
By training, I am a diplomatic historian with concentrations in nuclear and Cold War international history. I am currently completing a book manuscript on the international history of regional nuclear-weapon-free zones. My work has been published in top peer-reviewed journals, such as Diplomatic History, Cold War History, Diplomacy & Statecraft, The American Historical Review, and The International History Review. It has also been published in leading policy outlets like Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, Arms Control Today, Lawfare, and Americas Quarterly.
I previously served as a MacArthur Nuclear Security Postdoctoral Fellow with the Center for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC) at Stanford University, where I remain an affiliate. I also served as a Stanton Nuclear Security Postdoctoral Fellow at MIT. I hold a Ph.D. in history from The George Washington University, master’s degrees in international and world history from Columbia University and the London School of Economics, and a B.A. (hons.) in history from NYU.
A California native, I currently reside in Williamsburg, VA.
